We've just had some very quick renovations - we now have internal stairs! Its so wonderful to be able to walk downstairs, and has really made the house feel like a home. Its also been great to go down to the car without getting wet! Yay!

Yeah it was odd. A few months ago I had 3 stair installers come over to discuss where to put stairs, one said too difficult and never replied, one said he could do it if we sacrificed one upstairs room and the corresponding downstairs room (hullo !!! in a 3 bedroom house ???), one replied with a quote that was quite high and meant we would totally lose our eaccess to our proposed deck.
It wasn't until a beer in hand that I looked at our house with a squinted eye and thought, what if i transferred the entrance from the lounge to the kitchen from where it was to where it used to be, that would open up a dead space along one wall ? And yes, the first next stair installer looked at it and said "yeah, no worries." The next week it was done, half the price of the other quote. Mind you it would have been cheaper and quicker if in cutting through my wooden floor he had not come across a massive metal support beam, bugger. Oh well, another steel support post downstairs, so what.
So now comes the reclaiming of the kitchen, plan to extend the kitchen bench over the ballustrading to create a useable space.
Renovations, fun huh. Gotta hit Dad up to borrow his power saw.
